Cases Registered Against Two Facebook Users For Positing 'Sensitive Remarks' in J&K's Kishtwar

New Delhi: Two Facebook users were booked for posting "sensitive remarks" on the social media site having potential to disturb peace and order in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday.

The separate cases were registered against Kehem Raj of Atholi-Padder and Wasil Doolwal of Kishtwar town for uploading objectionable posts on their social media accounts, which have tendency to promote enmity and hatred between different religious communities and groups, a police official said.

He said the cases were registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act on Saturday after police took note of the "mischievous activity" of some persons on Facebook.

Further investigation of both the cases is going on, the official said.

He warned social media users of stringent action under law for posting or liking any content which may create communal strife in the district.

Maharashtra Becomes The First State To Ban Loose Cigarettes

  The State Health Department of Maharashtra issued a public notification banning the sale of ‘loose’ or unpacked  cigarettes and beedis , making it the first state to do so. This is in accordance with the subsection (2) of section 7 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (Act No. 34 of 2003) which mandates a public health warning on all cigarette and tobacco boxes. Loose cigarettes and beedis do not have descriptive warnings on them and hence, do not meet this criterion. Consumers will now have to buy the whole  box . The step has been taken to discourage young adults and teens from smoking as they may not have the financial capability to buy entire boxes.
