Schools, Colleges And Other Educational Institutions Will Reopen Across India From This Date, HRD Minister Reveals

New Delhi: Schools and colleges will reopen across India after August 2020, most probably after August 15, said Union HRD Minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal. "We are trying to get declared all the results from the examinations this session by August 15. On the other hand, the Haryana government has decided to reopen the schools next month-- in a phased manner. Speaking to reporters, Education minister Kanwar Pal said that the state government will take feedback from stakeholders, including parents, teachers and experts and then it will take a final call on resumption of classes. Also Read - Premature For Kejriwal Govt to Open Restaurants, Malls From June 8, Alleges Delhi Congress
In the first phase, Classes 10-12 would be started in July, followed by Classes 6-9, and in the last phase Classes 1-5 would begin, he said. The colleges and university classes will begin in August, the minister stated.

An edited image of a Hindi news channel, claiming that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has given nod to state all states to open schools was also doing rounds on social media. However, the rumour was busted by the spoksperson of MHA on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
"No such decision taken by MHA. All Educational institutions are still prohibited to open, throughout the country (sic)," the spokesperson had tweeted.

Maharashtra Becomes The First State To Ban Loose Cigarettes

  The State Health Department of Maharashtra issued a public notification banning the sale of ‘loose’ or unpacked  cigarettes and beedis , making it the first state to do so. This is in accordance with the subsection (2) of section 7 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 (Act No. 34 of 2003) which mandates a public health warning on all cigarette and tobacco boxes. Loose cigarettes and beedis do not have descriptive warnings on them and hence, do not meet this criterion. Consumers will now have to buy the whole  box . The step has been taken to discourage young adults and teens from smoking as they may not have the financial capability to buy entire boxes.
